Immediate source of acquisition

Some of the fonds were donated to Hamilton Public Library, Local History and Archives in 1948 by Mrs. John Walkden. A portion of the fonds including papers and sketches by William Blair Bruce were donated by an anonymous donor in 1967.

The initial accession for the Bruce Family fonds was #00045 which included materials related to William Bruce and his son William Blair Bruce. At a later date (1967), an anonymous donor donated letters, sketches and drawings from William Blair Bruce. At an undetermined date, accession #00045 was divided up and accessions #00276 (William Bruce) and #00507 (William Blair Bruce) were created and accession #00045 was removed. The current accession (#00507) has been rearranged to better reflect materials initially in accession #00045 for the Bruce Family fonds.
