History

The Hamilton Video Filmmakers club was formed in 1938 as the Hamilton Movie Club. It was disbanded during World War II because of a film shortage but re-organized in 1947 as the Hamilton Amateur Movie Makers, an affiliate of the Society of Amateur Cinematographers. The club has moved between several locations including the Central Library, St. Giles United Church, the Royal Botanical Gardens, and Faith United Church. They have hosted film festivals, monthly meetings for amateurs and professionals to share work and technical expertise, and also publish a monthly newsletter.
