Scrapbooks

Series consists of scrapbooks containing textual records and photographs pertaining to the activities of the 67th University Battery Chapter. The scrapbook for 1975 includes articles that pertain to the activities of other chapters as well.

Hamilton United Gay Societies (HUGS)

The Hamilton United Gay Societies (HUGS) was an umbrella organization for 12 sub-organizations established in 1980 and incorporated in 1982. HUGS provided a range of services and information, education and peer counselling, hosted social events, created spaces for support groups and connected people to other services that were related to LGBTQ+ issues. Gayline was Hamilton’s first telephone counselling service for gays and lesbians that was first operated by the Hamilton-McMaster Homophile Association on March 20, 1975 and was continued by HUGS. HUGS also had a community centre at 41 King William Street in downtown Hamilton.

Hamilton Pride

Series consists of a flyer and pamphlet from Hamilton Pride 1998, press release, and HammerPride 2011 unofficial schedule.

HUGS - Gay History of Hamilton

This envelope contains photographs of specific locations in Hamilton which includes gay spaces such as Billie's Place and where HUGS events took place such as YMCA. A list of the places are included in this envelope.

Audio-visual Materials

Series consists of audio-visual materials such as audio cassettes, DVDs, VHS, and floppy disks. Audio cassette tapes are mostly from the Hamilton United Gay Societies (HUGS). DVDs and VHS tapes are mostly recorded segments of Toronto Pride and news coverage of LGBTQ+ issues from CHCH, CHTV and Cable 14. Some VHS tapes were of Hamilton United Gay Societies (HUGS) events.

Videoclip of interviews with people about AIDS and the segment 'Someone To Talk To' on Cable 14 with the topic of sexual orientation, homosexuality, and AIDS. In this clip is also the coverage of Toronto Pride 1991 from City Pulse Tonight and CBC News. Last clip is on AIDS and interview with Kevin Bishop of Hamilton AIDS Network.
