File consists of correspondence between Waldon and Helen E. Nelles, of Niagara Falls, Ontario, on the article in Ontario History on Mary Electa Adams by E. Pomeroy, and on Mrs. Griffith.

Series consists of a collection of original photographs, photograph prints, contact sheets and negatives including glass plate negatives, of various people, places, buildings, companies, parks, monuments, historic sites, landscapes, streetscapes and events relating to the history of Hamilton. Some of these images were donated to the Society and others were collected by various members. Many of these images were used in Society publications such as “Around and About Hamilton, 1785-1985”, and “Hamilton: Panorama of Our Past.” This series also contains 13 postcards with photograph images. Steel paddle steamer measuring 143 x 25 x 7 feet, 303 tonnage, built in 1897 in Levis, Quebec by John Lovett Davie. The vessel was originally named the Champion and sailed the St. Lawrence River as a river boat for most of its career. It then served as a ferry operating around the Thousand Islands and between Gananoque, Ontario and Clayton, New York. In 1944, it was purchased by the Hamilton Harbour Commission and re-named the Hamiltonian, to be used as a ferry and day cruise service taking passengers from Hamilton Harbour to Burlington Beach and Lasalle Park in Burlington, Ontario. After a fire destroyed the boat in 1952, it was taken out of ferry service and scrapped in 1954. During its time as a ferry boat, the Hamiltonian carried one million passengers across the waters of Hamilton Bay. The file contains a transfer of registry, a report of shipping casualties and strandings documenting the fire, as well as some correspondence from Canada Customs and Excise Office, Hamilton Harbour Commissioners, the Department of Transport, and the Steel Company of Canada Limited, to the Registrar of Shipping, Hamilton.

Series consists of lists of recipients of the Hamilton Soldiers Benefit Fund for daughters of deceased soldiers, provided by the Big Sisters of Paardeburg. After World War I, the Big Sisters of Paardeburg formed as an organization within the chapter to assist daughters of deceased Hamilton soldiers, known as the Little Sisters of Paardeburg.

File consists of photographs of horses and carts from The Pure Milk Company, established in 1901 with John Milne, a manufacturer and politician, as president. Prior to the advent of Pure Milk Company, various small operators handled the distribution of dairy products in Hamilton. Milne and other businessmen played on public fears of contaminated milk to ensure support for Pure Milk, which had the capital to acquire the latest machinery and technology for sterile processing.

The fonds consists of 4 volumes of records pertaining to the Hamilton Orphan Asylum, including 3 volumes of Registers of Names, dated 1848 to 1869, 1848 to 1886, and 1874 to 1914, as well as a volume entitled, Record of Orphan’s Apprenticeships, dated 1881 to 1913.

Series consists of correspondence, list of guild members, invitations, and a calendar of events. Guild members included industry professionals and any individuals who sought to represent and support the professional work of opera singers and musicians.

File consists of photographs of vehicles from Hamilton Mill Stock and Metal Company Limited, 36 Lincoln Street at Linden Avenue.

Series consists of three magazines, two of which were published by Peter Stevens when he was Photo Editor for Broadway Magazine and The Hammer Magazine. Broadway Magazine (September – October 1993), features a cover photograph taken by Peter Stevens of authors Bernadette Rule and John Terpstra. The Hammer Magazine (May 1991), features a cover photograph taken by Peter Stevens of
musicians Glen Marshall and Sarah Keates of “Altogether Morris.” The View Magazine (March 28, 1996) features an article on local designer Vesna Trkulja, with the photograph taken by Peter Stevens.

The material in the fonds consists of bylaws, constitution documents, correspondence, newspaper articles, minute books, and ephemera of the Hamilton Cricket Club.

Subseries consists of numerous photographs, negatives and a few contact sheets of Hamilton Civic Museums including, Dundurn Castle, Hamilton Children’s Museum, Hamilton Military Museum, Hamilton Museum of Steam and Technology and Whitehern Historic House and Garden National Historic Site.

Material consists of a Hamilton Business College Register of Students, dated October 1888 to May 1901. The register records the names and addresses of the students, and their choice of course to enroll in, [business, shorthand or spec?]. Later entries also included the length of time the students were enrolled, their experience of the course, and whether they returned to the course at a later date.

The material in the collection consists of administrative records, including a meeting minute book containing the proceedings of the Managing Committee of the Hamilton and Gore Mechanics' Institute, a register recording the names of members and the books loaned by the Institute, rules and regulations of the Institute, memberships and subscriptions, lending cards, and an annual election card. There is also some publicity and newspaper clippings pertaining to the Institute and its events and holdings, as well as records created by Dr. Freda Farrell Waldon, former Chief Librarian of the Hamilton Public Library, who researched the history of the early libraries and mechanics' institutes. The records include correspondence, research notes and resources, as well some publications.

The material in the fonds pertains to the Hamilton Active Service Canteen, run by volunteers for service members stationed in Hamilton, or on leave from active duty, during the Second World War. The material consists of meeting minutes, canteen administrative logbooks, financial records, including a few annual reports and an auditor's report, various types of correspondence, as well as a few notices, one of which advertises the closure of the canteen at the end of the war. The fonds also contains one photograph of an R.C.A.F. member who visited the canteen on leave from active duty.
