Series consists of a note from jailor, Dennis Malone, indicating he received from Sergeant Morin of the 1st Battalion Incorporated Militia, prisoners Henry Henry and Patrick Farrell, privates in the above regiment, dated at Hamilton, January 4, 1839, a note written by William Winder, Surgeon, 1st Battalion Incorporated Militia, stating that he has examined Private Joseph Forster of No. 8 Company and determined that he is fit to undergo the sentence of solitary confinement meted out by court martial, dated at Hamilton, June 21, 1839, as well as a letter written by [W.B. Roberts?], to the officer commanding the guards, mentioning that he visited the Town and Ordinance Guard by day and night and found the sentries to be on alert at their posts, dated at Hamilton, October 15, 1842. All the documents in this series are original.

This series also contains letters of condolences from various individuals to Isaac Baldwin McQuesten regarding the death of his father, Calvin McQuesten.

Series consists of letters written by Hamilton Naturalists’ Club members to specific organizations and individuals, raising concerns over issues such as environmental conservation, the welfare and protection of wildlife, and the hunting, trafficking and killing of birds. Correspondence also pertains to inquiries about donations, memberships, publications and programs. This series also includes correspondence from a few notable Hamiltonians such as a letter from the Club to Reverend Calvin McQuesten of Whitehern asking him to be the Honourary President of the Club for the 1961-62 season, and McQuesten’s acceptance of this position. There is also a letter addressed to His Worship Mayor Victor K. Copps regarding the Club’s disapproval of a proposed commercial development of LaSalle Park in Burlington, Ontario (December 9, 1969).

The series also includes public reference requests, which are predominantly genealogical in nature. Some documents are fragile and torn.

Series consists of letter correspondence and order forms correspondence between Grafton & Co. Ltd. and advertising company R.C. Smith & Son. Most of the letters discuss advertising slogans, logos, and information regarding the 90th anniversary of the company.

Series consists of a one-page letter with accompanying reminiscences. The letter, dated July 23, 1903 was written by Thomas L. Kinrade, to W.C. Morton of Hamilton, Ontario. The four accompanying pages are Thomas L. Kinrade's reminiscences about the militia during the Fenian Raids in 1866 including a reference to Isaac Buchanan, a prominent Hamilton citizen. Other memories include the Central Public School “sheds” that were located along the streets near the school, religious instruction in public schools, as well as thoughts about a former principal of Central Public School, Archibald McCallum, who served from 1858-1870.

Series consists of textual records documenting the activities of the corresponding secretary of the Emma Frances Pratt Chapter. The corresponding secretary's book contains details about correspondence of the chapter, such as name and location of the addressee, and date and subject matter of the letter or phone call. Records are arranged in chronological order.

Series consists of annual catalogues for Wesleyan Ladies' College, which contain lists of courses offered, faculty members, graduates and current students, as well as information about fees, student and alumnae associations, etc.

Subseries consists of a court document related to a case from the State of New Hampshire, USA in the names of Edward Lerned versus Calvin McQuesten. This subseries also includes documentation from the Provincial Secretary's Office regarding Isaac Baldwin McQuesten’s Commission as Notary Public, as well as the Department of State in Ottawa regarding a release of judgment being referred to the Minister of Justice.

Series consists of court martial proceedings for various soldiers in the First Battalion Incorporated Militia. The first record pertains to Sergeant William W. Dawson of No. 4 Company, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of “irregular and unsoldierlike conduct in having been drunk and unfit for duty,” on Saturday, February 9, 1839. The document records the proceedings and the witness testimony, as well as the guilty verdict and the punishment, which was Sergeant Dawson’s reduction of rank and pay to that of a private sentinel, dated at Hamilton, February 13, 1839. The second record pertains to Private Joseph Forster of No. 8 Company, who was ordered by Major Gourlay, commanding officer of the 1st Battalion Incorporated Militia, to stand trial for being absent without leave for a period of 10 days from June 7 to June 17, 1839. Private Forster pled guilty and was subsequently sentenced to 10 days in solitary confinement, dated at Hamilton on June 20th, 1839. The third record pertains to a proceeding to investigate a complaint from a civilian tavern keeper against three soldiers from the militia, accused of stealing logs of wood on December 27, 1841. The final few records, which are undated and incomplete, pertain to Lance Sergeant Robert Thompson, charged with threatening and assaulting Sergeant Gilbert. Some of the records in this series are original and some are photocopies.

The fonds consists of 7 envelopes of photographic prints and negatives all relating to the railways in and around Hamilton. Based on their content, the photographs and negatives appear to have been taken in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Image subjects include: the Huntsville and Lake of Bays Railway Company; various Canadian National trains, including passenger coaches; the Hamilton Street Railway; and the CNR Royal Train, which carried King George VI and Queen Elizabeth across Canada on their royal tour in 1939.

Screw (propeller) steamer built in Bill Quay, England in 1900 by Wood, Skinner and Company. The ship sank in the North Atlantic in October of 1915. The file contains a Certificate of British Registry, shipping port transfer documentation from the Registrar of Shipping, Newcastle-on-Tyne, England to the Registrar of Shipping, Hamilton, Ontario, report of a lost ship, and correspondence pertaining to the sinking of the ship.

Steel screw (propeller) steamer built in Dundee, Scotland in 1906 by the Caledonia Shipbuilding & Engineering Company. The vessel was owned by several companies and was requisitioned for use during World War One. It was sunk by an enemy submarine in March of 1917. The file contains a Certificate of British Registry, shipping port transfer documentation from the Port of Dundee, Scotland to the Registrar of Shipping, Hamilton, Ontario, transfer of mortgage documents, as well as some correspondence from the Canada Steamship Lines and the Department of Marine and Fisheries, to the Registrar of Shipping, Hamilton, Ontario and the Registrar of Shipping, Dundee, Scotland.

American wooden-hulled ship built in Detroit, Michigan in 1882 (builder unknown). The vessel was in service in American waters for 24 years before being bought by the Canada Steam Lines Limited Company and used for service in the Hamilton area until 1914, when it became a barge carrying coal. The vessel sank in 1919. The file contains a bill of sale, a certificate of survey, a certificate of marking, verifying the sea worthiness of the vessel, registration and ownership documents, memorandums, a telegraph, as well as correspondence from various departments and companies to the Registrar of Shipping, Hamilton, Ontario.

Series consists of the records of Edith Ellen (Adams) Bowlby (1864-1931), who attended Wesleyan Ladies' College as both a student and a teacher. Series includes photographs (featuring unidentified students of Wesleyan), studentship cards, and correspondence between Margaret Bowlby, daughter of Edith Ellen, and Freda Waldon, which includes a copy of the entry about Bowlby from the National Encyclopedia of Canadian Biography (1937).

Screw (propeller) yacht measuring 41 x 9 ½ x 5 feet, built in Hamilton, Ontario in 1899 by James Weir. The voyage history of the vessel is unknown. The file contains a builder’s certificate, a certificate of survey, a declaration of ownership, a memorandum regarding the receipt of documentation, as well as some correspondence regarding the existence of the ship and its whereabouts.

Series consists of documents pertaining to educational functions of RHCM, including teacher lists, staff reports and staff biographical materials. Series also contains class schedules, schedules of fees, programs, course outlines and faculty evaluations. There is material pertaining to convocation ceremonies, adjudicator remarks, faculty evaluations and exams. Series also contains a large fellowship certificate, a graduation hood and 12 photographs of a convocation ceremony.

Subseries consists of photographs, negatives and contact sheets for Bennetto Public School, Sheridan College, Athabasca University and McMaster University.

Wooden schooner sailing ship measuring 143 x 25 x 10 feet, built in Port Dalhousie, Ontario in 1869 by William H. Andrews. The vessel was re-built in St. Catharines, Ontario in 1881 by Joseph Shickluna. There is little information pertaining to the ship and its voyage history. The file contains a few builder’s certificates, a certificate of survey, several ownership documents, registration documents, legal correspondence, telegraphs, memorandums, and correspondence from the Department of Marine and Fisheries Canada, Customs Canada, the Department of Transport, Marine Services, as well as from various companies, to the Registrar of Shipping, Hamilton, Ontario.

“Elastic Cotton Products are among the hardest hit under the present tariff structure. The specialty products produced by Hamilton Cotton Company and other Canadian mills are being undersold in the Canadian market by the “dumping” tactics of Japanese and U.S. manufacturers. Series consists of a salesman route sheet belonging to Robert Lawrence. The sheet records the towns and cities he visited during the month of February 1948, while employed as a travelling salesman for the Life Savers Company.

Series consists of documentation and reports on several environmental conservation projects initiated by the Hamilton Naturalists’ Club out of concern for the protection of the environment and the local community. Projects include but are not limited to, a water quality study of Cootes Paradise, the use of Dombind (a dust suppressant) on roadways, legislation to protect endangered species, land evaluations and inventories of natural areas such as the Eramosa Karst, Friends of the Red Hill Valley group, the Nature Counts Project, the construction of the Red Hill Creek Expressway, the concern over leachate at the Rennie and Brampton Streets Landfill Sites, Save Our Ravines, Save the Oak Ridges Moraine, tree cutting and the West Harbour Trails. This series also includes photographs of the Falcon Watch project from a peregrine falcon observation session at the Sheraton Hotel in Hamilton.

Subseries consists of records pertaining to the estates of Alexander Logie and William Logie, including the last will and testament of William Logie, the last will and testament of Anne Logie, as well as records related to the receipt of an inheritance by Alexander Logie, outlining the dispersal of funds given to C.S. Ross, executor of the will of William Logie. The subseries also contains statements of assets and liabilities for both William and Alexander Logie.

Series consists of photographs, negatives and some contact sheets of some public events that took place in Hamilton, Ontario and were photographed by Peter Stevens. The events include the 1999 HamiltonTiger Cats Grey Cup Win and Champion Parade, as well as Heritage Day [n.d.] This series also contains a file on Peter Steven's Tobermory vacation and a file on the Transition Board Meetings [association unknown].
