The fonds consists of three computer typed manuscripts written by Bruce New. The first manuscript is entitled "Down to the Pub" a memoir of the Gown and Gavel Pub former located at 24 Hess Street South in Hamilton. The second manuscript titled "...and so it came to pass.." is a collection of short entertainment. The third manuscript titled "On the Bus" recounts bus experiences in the city.

Series consists of records pertaining to business transactions, including mortgage documents, a debenture register containing debentures issued by the Township of Barton to various individuals and organizations, promissory notes, receipts and statements of costs, accounts and payments, authorizations of payments and non-payments, bonds, bank drafts and cheques, copyright and patent documents, statements and agreements on partnerships, as well as tenders and agreements for work and renovations.

Canada

Wooden-hulled, screw (propeller) steamer vessel measuring 142 x 23 x 13 feet, 408 tonnage, built in Hamilton, Ontario in 1872 by Archibald Miller Robertson. The Canada was a passenger and freight ship that operated between Montreal and Chicago from 1872 until 1878. In 1892 the ship was severely damaged by fire. The engine was salvaged, repurposed and used in the S.S. Arabian. The file contains a builder’s certificate, a certificate of survey, registration and ownership documents, mortgage papers, and a few pages of correspondence.

Cataract (formerly the Myles)

Screw (propeller) steamer vessel measuring 179 x 33 x 15 feet, 800 tonnage, built in Hamilton, Ontario in 1882 by Archibald Miller Robertson for Thomas Myles and Son, Coal Company Merchants. The vessel was a cargo ship that sunk in 1886 and was raised by the owners. In March of 1906, the Myles was re-named the Cataract when the Cataract Ice Company purchased the vessel. The file contains a builder’s certificate, certificates of survey, registration and ownership documents and transfers, ship stranding reports, memorandums, legal correspondence regarding bills of sale, receipts for bills of sale and mortgage payments, as well as general correspondence to and from the Registrar of Shipping from the Department of Marine and Fisheries, Thomas Myles and Sons Coal Merchants, Myles Transportation Company and the Cataract Ice Company.

Centennial Projects

Series consists of records pertaining to the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce Centennial in 1945, the city of Hamilton Centennial in 1946, and the Canadian Centennial in 1967.

Chapter histories

Series consists of two chapter histories. One book is a municipal chapter history, which contains by-laws (1985) for the chapter, the names of life members, the names of Hamilton IODE chapters with the dates each organized and disbanded, as well as the names of executive members present at annual meetings, including officers and conveners, stewards and house committee chairmen. The other book contains histories for Hamilton IODE chapters. The book contains a 50-year history for the Municipal Chapter, the St. Hilda Chapter, the St. Elizabeth Chapter, the St. Cecilia Chapter, the Caxton Chapter, the Paardeburg Chapter, the General Allenby Chapter, and the 67th University Battery Chapter. Some of the histories include an addendum that documents the next 10 years of the chapter, resuming from the point at which the 50-year history concluded.

Client Files

Subseries consists of legal documents relating to two family estates; the Grierson family estate and the estate of Mary Wallace. Documents in the Grierson file include correspondence and estate papers such as deeds, mortgage sales and payments, power of attorney records and two fire insurance polies. The Mary Wallace file contains some letter correspondence from the law firm Chisholm, McQuesten & Welby to Kate Millar, regarding a watch that was bequeathed to her by her friend, Mary Wallace.

Subseries consists of documentation for two clients of Alexander Logie; Donald Frederick Campbell of Brampton, Ontario, and Sir John A. MacDonald of Kingston, Ontario. The documentation for Donald F. Campbell includes receipts and correspondence related to the sale of furniture, an assurance policy and receipts for premium fees, records related to the valuation of land and certification of title for lots in Chinquaconey (now Brampton, Ontario), correspondence related to a dispute between Owen Nowlan and Alexander Logie, Richard H. Rae, Donald F. Campbell and Thomasina Catherine Campbell, as well as a marriage contract between Donald F. Campbell and Thomasina Catherine Brega. The documentation related to Sir John A. MacDonald includes deeds for lots in Moore Township, statements documenting land sales, in such locales as Dover, Moore and Sombra, as well as correspondence between Sir John A. MacDonald and Alexander Logie, mostly concerning land sales and politics.

Clippings and Ephemera

This series contains ephemera and loose newspaper clippings related to the Hamilton Cricket Club. For preservation purposes, most material is encapsulated.

Captioned by the Hamilton Cotton Company: “Cloth Inspection is an important aspect of the quality and workmanship which primary mills such as the Hamilton Cotton Company assure Canadian processors. All yardage is given careful inspection to check quality, and uniformity of the finished cotton cloth. Coalition for Lesbian and Gay Rights in Ontario (CLGRO)

The Coalition for Lesbian and Gay Rights in Ontario (formerly Coalition for Gay Rights in Ontario) was established on January 18 and 19, 1975. CLGRO was a non-profit organization of groups and individuals committed to working towards feminism and lesbian, gay, and bisexual liberation by engaging in public struggle for full human rights, in promoting diversity and access within our communities and by strengthening cooperative networks for feminism and lesbian, gay, and bisexual activism. After 34 years, they dissolved on May 2nd, 2009. Today, Queer Ontario continues the work of CLGRO and preserves their history and documents.

Series consists of meeting minutes, correspondence, pamphlets, booklets, reports, publication, briefs to the Members of the Ontario Legislature and their newsletters.

Series consists of records such as agendas and meeting minutes, guidelines of conduct, correspondence and reports from the various committees of the Society including the Archives Committee, the Hamilton Biography Advisory Committee, the Historical Committee, the June Outing Committee, the Marketing Committee, Newsletter Committee, Publications Committee, Public Relations Committee, the Old City Hall Clock Restoration Committee, and the Seniors Committee. The series also contains 2 photographs of the members of the Publications Committee, dated 1994.

Series consists of records of meeting minutes for the Executive Committee, as well as meeting minutes for various committees. Earlier committees included ones concerning agriculture, exports, taxation, public safety, retail, finance, street naming and numbering, elections and city planning among others. Modern committees included the Agenda for Action, the Ambassador Committee, the Business Development Committee, the Civic Centre Arena Project, the Community Based Employment Adjustment Committee, the Education and Skills Training Subcommittee, the Federal/Provincial Affairs Committee, the Finance and Taxation Committee, the Foreign Trade Subcommittee, the General Committee, the Hamilton Harbour Remedial Action Plan Committee, the Hamilton Harbour Task Force, the Hospitality Committee, the Human Resources Committee, the Industrial Liaison and Zoning Committee, Publicity Committee, REACH (Regional Employment and Adjustment Committee of Hamilton-Wentworth), the Small Business Subcommittee, Tourism and Conventions Development Task Force, and the Transportation Committee. Some of the minutes have incomplete years. This series also contains two photographs from the file on the Transportation Services Committee pertaining to the Instaglide, which was a train model for rapid transit from the Instaglide Transportation Corporation.

Series consists of two reports by White, Mossop & Erling Limited Consulting Engineers prepared in 1968 on the proposed specifications for the revisions to the power distribution system and alterations to the boiler house. There is also one mortgage report dated 1 January 1918 by The Hamilton Cotton Company Limited to Charles Sumner Scott and George Lynch-Staunton trustees.

Series includes materials related to concerts and entertainment at Wesleyan Ladies' College, often in partnership with the Conservatory of Music, such as concert tickets and programs, invitations to conversaziones and at-homes, and announcements for Senior Literary Society meetings.

Series consists of an indenture detailing a contract between the Sonora Mining Company and The Trusts and Guarantees Company Limited (Toronto).
