Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire. General Allenby Chapter
Subseries consists of general letter correspondence as well as draft letters, mostly from the Women’s Wentworth Historical Society to its members and external organizations, as well as some addressed to the Society from other historical societies and individuals. The correspondence includes condolences on deaths of members or those connected to the Society, confirmation of attendance at upcoming meetings, appreciation for guest speakers’ appearances, the acceptance of executive officer roles, resignations from the Society, membership inquiries, genealogical research inquiries from the public, interest from the public in Battlefield House, the monument, and the Battle of Stoney Creek, and appreciation for restoration work completed and donations received. The series includes a formal letter sent to the Right Honourable Lord Byng, of Vimy, Governor General and Commander in Chief of the Dominion of Canada, from the Society extending a welcome to him and his wife, Lady Byng, and mentioning the historical significance of the area of Stoney Creek to the formation of Canada. The letter also welcomes Lady Byng as the honourary President of the Society, dated April 10, 1922. There is also some correspondence regarding Chief Joseph Brant’s sword that was donated to the Society, as well as correspondence on the transfer of the sword from Battlefield House on loan to the Joseph Brant Museum, which includes a newspaper article. The series also contains correspondence from the Society to the membership regarding the disbandment of the organization due to dwindling membership, shortages of volunteers, and changing social and economic times. The letter, dated August 23, 1982, outlines the plan for the disbandment and the tasks left to complete to cease operations.
Subseries consists of correspondence regarding membership in the Society, membership fees, the acceptance or decline of nominations for specific positions within the Society, upcoming meetings, funding grants for a building to be the repository for the Society’s collection of historical papers, books and artifacts, requests for use of a room in the Hamilton public library for meetings, preservation of current historical sites and cemeteries, as well as correspondence regarding lectures and addresses on historical topics, the society’s publications, and membership with other historical organizations.

File consists of a photograph of showroom windows for General Motors Products of Canada, 68-72 John Street North, which are painted with signs for Oldsmobile automobiles, and photographs the interior of the General Motors building situated at George and Bay Streets, which was completely renovated in 1936 with a two-story addition that ran 138 feet along George Street. Seven houses were demolished to make room for the new L-shaped structure. Shortly after this renovation, the business changed its name to Hamilton Motor Products.

Series consists of various general orders to the militia companies from different headquarters or brigade offices, informing officers commanding troops that no men absent without leave shall receive pay or rations, and men absent with leave (furlough), shall not be given rations, dated at Brantford, February 20, 1839. The same document contains another order stating that no men in the cavalry shall use their horses or wagons for anything other than military purposes, as the men and horses are paid by the government for the public service, not for personal service, dated at Brantford, February 22, 1839. There is a District General Order from January 15, 1839, instructing that weekly returns of the militia corps are to be transmitted to Colonel Halkett, Assistant Military Secretary at Toronto, signed by C. Foster, dated March 6, 1839, an order relating to the return of arms and ammunition, dated at Toronto, May 19, 1839, and an order from the Brigade Office in Drummondville, instructing No. 2 Company of the First Incorporated Battalion Militia to furnish a detachment with one Captain, four Sergeants and one hundred rank-and-file men, to be stationed at Fort Erie until further notice, dated August 21, 1839. There is also a District General Order relating to the apprehension of Private George Gibbs, dated at Toronto, September 10, 1839. The documents in this series are all originals, with the exception of two photocopies of the order from the Brigade Office.

Item is a photograph of Glendale Spinning Mills, incorporated in 1918, and located on the east side of Glendale Avenue at Primrose Avenue. Glendale Spinning Mills was formed during the first World War by W.A. Holton of Hamilton, F.L. Chipman and Evan Chipman of Easton, Pennsylvania, principals of Chipman-Holton Knitting Company, to supply the parent company with carded cotton and hosiery yarns. New construction added 10,000 square feet of floor space to the plant in the early 1950s, while an expansion and modernization also occurred in 1962.

File consists of photographs of staff and vehicles from Goodale Transport. Once located at 72 Napier Street and under the administration of president Edward Goodale, Goodale Transport originated with one truck in 1921 when Arthur Edward Goodale drove the single truck himself and undertook city delivery work. By July 1922, a second truck was added and by the fall of that year, out-of-town transporting began. Goodale Transport was incorporated in 1928 and, as business thrived, Edward Goodale became active in the Automotive Transport Association of Ontario. By 1936, Goodale Transport offered daily service between some eighty-two points using thirty motor units and nine trailers and, in addition to the head office in Hamilton, had branches in Brantford, Galt, Guelph, Kitchener, Woodstock, Toronto, London, Niagara Falls, Stratford, St. Catharines and Welland. The company had forty-nine employees, forty-seven men and two women. On March 1, 1936, Goodale Transport Limited moved into their new headquarters in the Northside Storage Building at Bay and Mulberry Streets.

Graeme MacKay political sketches
The collection consists primarily of political cartoons drawn by Graeme MacKay for The Hamilton Spectator. Topics covered in the cartoons are wide-ranging, and involve many political issues facing Canada, Ontario and the city of Hamilton. All of the drawings are “working originals” with a few partial sketches that may be missing captions or have blank areas.

The fonds consists of correspondence concerning the 90th anniversary of the company regarding the draft history entitled "1853 -- 90 Years of Progress -- 1943" pertaining to Grafton & Co. Ltd. office in Dundas. In addition there is administrative records, particular order forms and promotional material. The donation also consists of photographs of employees, interior of the mailroom, offices, and manufacturing plant, as well as an illuminated text from the employees to the Mr. James B. Grafton on the occasion of the company's 50th anniversary.

Item is a photograph of the "Remington Rand" booth at Hamilton's 1949 Industrial Fair, held at the armouries. This four-day event was a non-profit fair organized by the Hamilton Junior Chamber of Commerce. It was held in the local Hamilton armouries on James Street North, and was intended to showcase to Hamiltonians what the city sells and manufactures.

Hamilton Active Service Canteen fonds
The material in the fonds pertains to the Hamilton Active Service Canteen, run by volunteers for service members stationed in Hamilton, or on leave from active duty, during the Second World War. The material consists of meeting minutes, canteen administrative logbooks, financial records, including a few annual reports and an auditor's report, various types of correspondence, as well as a few notices, one of which advertises the closure of the canteen at the end of the war. The fonds also contains one photograph of an R.C.A.F. member who visited the canteen on leave from active duty.

Hamilton AIDS Network for Dialogue and Support (HANDS)

The Hamilton AIDS Network for Dialogue and Support (HANDS) was founded in 1986 by Suzie Robinson, Michael Johnstone, David Des Jardins, John Vogel, and Dr. Jay Browne who were dedicated volunteers. HANDS was a registered charitable community-based organization that provided HIV and AIDS related education and support services to the Hamilton-Wentworth and Burlington area. HANDS distributed educational materials, published regular newsletters, had an information and support line and organized events such as the Speakers’ Bureau. They were also a member of the Canadian AIDS Society and the Ontario AIDS Network. HANDS changed its name to Hamilton AIDS Network in 1992 and is now known as The AIDS Network.
Series consists of agendas, meeting minutes, correspondence, reports, manuals, the HANDS, HANDS Volunteer, and Hamilton AIDS Network newsletters, and pamphlets. This series also contains records on the development of Hamilton’s first palliative care hospice facility, AIDS Prevention Task Force and Anonymous Testing working groups.
Hamilton and Gore Mechanics' Institute Collection
The material in the collection consists of administrative records, including a meeting minute book containing the proceedings of the Managing Committee of the Hamilton and Gore Mechanics' Institute, a register recording the names of members and the books loaned by the Institute, rules and regulations of the Institute, memberships and subscriptions, lending cards, and an annual election card. There is also some publicity and newspaper clippings pertaining to the Institute and its events and holdings, as well as records created by Dr. Freda Farrell Waldon, former Chief Librarian of the Hamilton Public Library, who researched the history of the early libraries and mechanics' institutes. The records include correspondence, research notes and resources, as well some publications.

Material consists of a Hamilton Business College Register of Students, dated October 1888 to May 1901. The register records the names and addresses of the students, and their choice of course to enroll in, [business, shorthand or spec?]. Later entries also included the length of time the students were enrolled, their experience of the course, and whether they returned to the course at a later date.

The donation consists of two reports by White, Mossop & Erling Limited Consulting Engineers prepared in 1968 on the proposed specifications of the revisions to power distribution system and alterations to the boiler house for work at the Hamilton Cotton Company Limited facilities, as well as a mortgage dated 1 January 1918. In addition, the donation consists of photographs showing the manufacturing process from the raw material to the finished product, as well as photographs of employees and other cotton mills throughout Ontario.

On February 1991, the Hamilton United Gay Societies (HUGS) transitioned to the Hamilton Gay and Lesbian Alliance (Hamilton GALA or HGALA). HGALA continued to provide services and information to the LGBTQ+ community and the broader community in Hamilton. The suborganizations under HGALA were the Lesbian/Gayline, Dance Committee Volunteers, Support Group, Youth Group, Hamilton Lesbian Collective (HLC), Lesbian Support Group, Speakers Bureau, Phoenix Newsletter, Hamilton-Wentworth Gay Archives and the Hamilton GALA Computer Bulletin Board.
Series consists of constitutions, membership files, meeting minutes, balance sheets, correspondence, notes, memorandum, files related to Festival ’91, pamphlets, reports, newspaper clippings, flyers, petitions, and the Joe Oliver v. The fonds consists of 4 volumes of records pertaining to the Hamilton Orphan Asylum, including 3 volumes of Registers of Names, dated 1848 to 1869, 1848 to 1886, and 1874 to 1914, as well as a volume entitled, Record of Orphan’s Apprenticeships, dated 1881 to 1913.
